Our guidelines for listing items are outlined in the User Agreement. To help users properly list items, we've highlighted some listing policies and describe how we handle listing violations when they are reported to us. Please keep in mind the following policies apply to both the auction-sytle and fixed price formats.
Proper category listing
Items must be listed in the appropriate category.
Policy: Items that don't belong in a category will be moved to the appropriate category. Item listings that belong in the Mature Audiences category that are found outside of that category will be ended. The insertion fee will be automatically credited for that listing.
Choice Auctions
A Choice Listing occurs when a seller allows buyers to choose from a selection of
items. Choice Listings can be problematic because the item agreed upon is
negotiated offline and can lead to either misrepresentation or fraud.
Policy: Choice Auctions are not allowed and will be ended. The insertion fee will be automatically credited for that listing.
Multi-Listing
Multi Listing occurs when a seller posts more than 10 listings for identical items.
The best method to list identical items is through our Storefront or
Partial Auction
formats. We understand sellers have reasons to list identical items at the same
time. This is permissible as long as the seller can complete the sale of all
listings. However, there is a limit to the number of identical, or duplicate,
listings allowed.
Policy: A seller can have up to 10 listings for identical items at one time. If a seller lists in more than one category, the categories must be relevant. Any additional identical listings may be ended. The insertion fee will be automatically credited for that listing.
Sign Posts
Details.at does not permit listings that are primarily used to direct a user
to a seller's other listings or storefront. These types of listings are referred
to as "signposts".
Policy: Sign Post listings are not permitted and will be ended. The insertion fee will be automatically credited for that listing.
Links from your item listing
Details.at allows sellers to place the following types of links in your item's
description:
If you have a logo for any of these links, it may be no greater than 88x33 pixels. (Exception - links to your Details.at listings).
Linking to web sites that offer to trade, sell or purchase goods or services, or including links for any purpose other than those listed above is not allowed. Prohibited links include, but are not limited to:
Further explanation:
When linking to a page that further describes the item you are selling, that page
may contain links to other pages that offer items for sale outside of Details.at.
This is permitted, provided the intent of the link is to further describe your item
and the link conforms to the policy above.
When linking to your email address to open an email client for potential buyers to ask questions about the item in that listing, that link may only be used to enable an email client through which potential buyers can ask questions about the item you are selling in that listing. It may not take you to another web page or promote other items that you may have for sale outside of Details.at.
You may include links to images of the item for sale. The image pages may also contain discrete links to other pages that offer items for sale outside of Details.at, but may not contain descriptions of or links to individual items on other sites.
You may also link to a page where information relating to your Details.at items is grouped in a picture gallery or similar format so long as the page otherwise complies with these policies. This gallery page may also contain discrete links to other pages that offer items for sale outside of Details.at, but may not contain descriptions of or links to individual items on other sites.
You may include one link to your About Me page in your listings. This link is in addition to the About Me icon provided in your Details.at listing by Details.at. However you may not include language within that link that promotes items.
If you have a logo for any of the above links, it may be no greater than 88x33 pixels. (Exception - links to your Details.at listings).
If you wish to place a third party credit or a counter in your listing, it must comply with our third party credit policy below.
Listings that do not meet Details.at's policy on links may be ended. Repeated violations of the policy may result in suspension from Details.at.
Links from your About Me Page
You may link to your own web store or web site. However, you may not directly offer any non-Details.at stuff on the About Me page itself.
Details.at does not permit its users to place the following types of links on your About Me pages:
About Me pages that do not meet this policy may be removed.
Third Party Credits
Details.at recognizes that many sellers use third party services to perform
essential functions related to their listing, and that there are legitimate
reasons for crediting such companies in their listings. For example, some
companies offer picture hosting, counters, listing software and payment
facilitation services. In exchange for providing their service, some third
party companies require or request that they receive "credit" or recognition
for their service within the Details.at listing. We will allow such credit
within the following guidelines.
Details.at will permit listings that contain a small, discrete identification or "credit" to third parties that provide services or products directly connected with the particular listing or that allow a seller to aggregate their Details.at listings.
The credit may only contain one of the following to identify or credit the company offering the product or service:
Exception - Third party payment services, third party dispute resolution and verification services may include both as long as only one is clickable.
The credit may not contain promotional material or other information about the company.
The service being credited should only be one that the seller is using within that particular listing.
If an image hosting service was used to create your listing, you may display a credit for the image hosting service provider (provided the credit adheres to the above guidelines):
Example:
"Image hosting services provided company X."
Providing credit for services not used in the particular listing is not permitted.
Example (Using the same listing for illustration): "Counter services and image hosting provided by company X."
The credit may link only to the third party company's web page containing information about the service.
The logo size may be no greater than 88x33 pixels, including backgrounds and borders. Example of the logo portion of a credit permitted within an item page:
The text may contain no more than 10 words, and may be no larger than HTML font size 3. Examples of the text portion of a credit permitted within a view item page:
"Web hosting provided by Quest Arena, Inc. "
"Escrow.Com Online Transactions."
The third party credit may NOT provide promotional statements or information about additional services offered by the company; it should simply identify the service provided by the company.
Note: The use of counters must comply with these guidelines as well. If the counter itself contains a credit to the company offering the service, it must conform to our Third Party Credits guidelines. If the counter itself does not contain a credit to the company offering the service, there are no size restrictions. However, a logo or text used outside of the counter to credit the service that provided it must conform to our Third Party Credits guidelines.
Listings that do not meet Details.at's policy on third party credits may be ended. The continued practice of placing third party credits in listings that do not meet Details.at's policies may result in suspension from Details.at. If you are concerned that the company providing your listing services may not be in compliance, please contact the company or service provider.
If you have questions about this policy, view the Links and Credits FAQ.

Want ads or trades
Listings advertising a desire to buy or trade items are not allowed.
Policy: All listings with want ads or trades are not permitted and will be ended, except for listings within the Non-Binding Bid Category. The insertion fee will be automatically credited for that listing.
Bonuses, giveaways, raffles and prizes
Listings that promote bonus items, giveaways, or random drawings or prizes as an
enticement for buyers are not permitted on Details.at as these promotions are
highly regulated and may be unlawful in many states. Details.at itself may run
such promotions on the site, and may grant authorization to its partners or
third party companies to run promotions, that comply with applicable laws.
Policy: These types of listings are not permitted and will be ended. The insertion fee will be automatically credited for that listing.
Listing Techniques that Circumvent Details.at's fee structure
Users may not use systems or techniques to circumvent Details.at fees. Some
examples include:
Offering in a listing the opportunity to purchase the item or other stuff outside of Details.at .
Listings with low prices but unreasonably high shipping or handling costs
Listing an item that requires or offers an additional purchase
Example: travel certificates that require holder to buy or pay for something
(i.e. 7 nights hotel room) as a condition of receiving the benefit of the coupon
(i.e. free or discounted airfare).
Partial Avoidance - listing a single item and offering additional identical items for sale in the item description. In these situations, the seller typically instructs buyers to indicate the number of items they want, and states that they can get the same price as the item in the listing.
Listings with an e-mail address or domain name in the title. Exception: This will be permissible only in listings that are offering a domain name for sale.
Catalog Sales - listings of catalogs from which buyers may directly order items are prohibited. In these situations, the seller will typically offer the catalog for low bid prices and complete sales outside of Details.at for items found in the catalog. Old, collectible catalogs (i.e., those that you cannot order from any longer) are permissible.
Offering items for sale in a manner that circumvents Details.at fees ( click here for more information - reference section titled fee avoidance.)
L istings that circumvent Details.at fees are not permitted and will be ended. The insertion fee will be automatically credited for that listing. Disciplinary action may result in the indefinite suspension of a user's account, temporary suspension, or a formal warning. Details.at will consider the circumstances of an alleged offense and the user's trading records before taking action.
Reserve Price listing violations
Reserve price stated in the description of the item when not listed as a reserve listing.
Seller states buyer is obligated to purchase when reserve is not met.
Policy: These types of listings are not permitted and will be ended. The insertion fee will be automatically credited for that listing.
Terms and Conditions contradictory to any Details.at Policy
Key word spamming
Excessive use of key words, including (but not limited to) brand names, which are
referenced for the purpose of attracting or diverting buyers to a listing will be
considered key word spamming and is not permitted. Please
for further clarification on this policy.
Policy: These types of listings are not permitted and will be ended. The insertion fee will be automatically credited for that listing.
Payment Surcharges
Sellers may not charge Details.at buyers an additional fee for their use of
ordinary forms of payment, including acceptance of checks, money orders,
electronic transfers or credit cards. Such costs should be built into the price
of the item -- this policy reduces the potential for confusion among bidders
about the true cost of an item. Further, some forms of payment surcharges, such
as credit card surcharges, are forbidden under the laws of many states, including
California. For more information, see:

Can a seller add a surcharge to the final price of a Details.at item? Yes, in
three instances.
Sellers may charge reasonable shipping and handling fee to the final price of their
item, providing that this fee is disclosed up front in the listing. A shipping and
handling fee can cover the seller's reasonable costs for mailing, packaging and
handling the item. Shipping and handling fees cannot be listed as a percentage of
the final sale price.
Sellers may pass along the costs associated with using a third party escrow
service, if the buyer chooses to use an escrow service.
Sellers may choose to accept payment in a different currency than the currency
listed on Details.at. If the buyer chooses to take advantage of this optional
payment method, the seller may pass along to the buyer any costs associated with
the currency exchange, provided that the costs are disclosed and agreed to in
advance by the buyer.
Profanity
Details.at does not allow the use of profanity or patently vulgar language.
This includes the use of language that is racist, hateful, sexual, or obscene in
nature in a public area. This policy extends to text within auction listings, on
About Me pages and on storefronts.
We make allowances for certain items listed on the core site that may contain profane words that are a part of the title. An example of such an item might be a music CD with profanity in some of the song titles. If the profane words are part of a title for the item being sold, we allow sellers to 'blurb' out the bulk of the offending word with asterisks (i.e., s*** or f***). Please keep in mind, all items listed must abide by our policies regarding adult items as outlined in our Mature Audiences guidelines.
Within our Mature Audiences categories, we allow sellers to quote from the title of the item being sold without 'blurbing' out the profane words. However, we do not allow the use of profanity in describing the item being sold.
Policy: The use of profanity on our site is not permitted. Listings that contain profanity will be ended. The insertion fee will be automatically credited for that listing.
